Software vulnerabilities in today's web applications, along with their associated exploits, are a primary cause of a majority of computer security problems. In fact, web application software is the target of choice for many profit-focused attackers. The key to proactive computer security thus involves getting a risk management handle on the software security problem. This intensive two-day program encompasses software security awareness and best practices through a combination of lecture-based and hands-on exercises.
Objectives:
This program aims to define clearly the software security problem; introduce and describe a set of software security best practices called "touchpoints" that can be integrated into any existing software development process; describe how and why software is exploited, using the OWASP "top 10" as a roadmap; delve deeply into architectural risk analysis, security testing and the use of advanced tools for code review; demonstrate why software security needs to be part of everyone’s job

Web Application Security Essentials is designed for software developers who design, implement and / or test web applications using Java and related web application technologies, but not limited to: CIOs; Website managers & coordinators; Intranet managers & coordinators; Web development teams; IT staff; IT managers; Executives who will be moving into these positions.
Instructor
The instructor is an IT Security practitioner with more than 20 years of experience in the academic, military and commercial sectors. He has held senior and executive technologist positions at Tekmark, Para-Protect, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), in addition to the U.S. Department of Defense and Carnegie Mellon and Lehigh Universities
